I. Introduction
A. Attention Getter: “Recent studies estimate that we use an astounding 129 billion face masks globally every month -- that is 3 million a minute” CITATION Uni21 \l 1033 (University of Southern Denmark, 2021).
B. Reason to Listen:  While masks help protect us from the imminent dangers of the COVID-19 Pandemic, our voluminous usage also places a long-term problem for us – the disposal and accumulation of solid wastes.
C. Credibility Statement:
1. I have always been an advocate for the health and safety of both individuals and the environment. However, recent events have made us choose either one.
2. Some of the previous research that I have done about this topic includes a systematic review of some research that pertains to the growing problems of mask disposals among people.
II. Thesis & Preview of Main Points:
Thesis: I believe that even though the usage of masks is crucial to stop and prevent the further spread of the virus, such usage must be reduced to a great extent, whether through technological and systematic approaches.
1. First, I will try to analyze the volume of masks that are being used every day in relation to the percentage that ends up in the sea.
2. Second, I will determine how the masks that end up in the sea affects the environment (directly or indirectly)
3. Third, I will try to check how the negative effects of masks could then affect human populations in the medium- and long-run
