Communication has always been and remains an essential aspect of human life. Stretching back centuries, various forms of communication have existed, ranging from written communication to visual communication and body language. With the advent of social media, communication has become even more interesting. Contemporary culture has seen a new approach to communication, especially to the youth, with advantages and disadvantages. While social media has had certain disadvantages, its advantages to the youth far outweigh its disadvantages in that it is useful in education, skills development and as a source of income.
The first advantage of social media to the youthful generation today is that it effectively helps school activities. Through social media such as WhatsApp or Facebook, it is now possible for students to create social communities and groups for learning, and it provides an opportunity to collaborate to develop innovative ideas beyond the classroom environment. Similarly, social media is helpful for schooling because it creates an environment where everyone can connect, thus assisting those who often feel isolated. While encouraging sharing of knowledge in various learning groups, social media provides students an opportunity to confidently share their feelings with each other as they make friends. Thus, social media has become an increasingly essential tool in the learning environment.
