Accountability is the act of being blameworthy and answerable to actions that I or we have done. All leaders in all prospects of life whether in the government, military, private firms or small business enterprises are supposed to be accountable for our actions to our subjects and to ourselves. Leadership is a skill practical when we lead individuals, teams or organizations. In the army, leadership is paramount for discipline to prevail and teamwork so as we can work towards safe environments for the citizens of our nation. According to Army Doctrine Notes (2012), an army leader is one who inspires and motives people to complete organizational objectives. Leadership has to start from the lowest rank meaning that even the individual with no rank should be trained on being accountable for one's actions so as organizations can run smoothly, duties and activities are done on time and correctly. Accountability in the army requires us as leaders to be able to keep proceedings of accounts, funds, property or documents.
The purpose of this document is to bring out the correlation between accountability and leadership in the army. As army leaders, we are to influence people in and outside the chain of command to act and think in ways that can shape the decisions and performance of the group. To be a good leader means that we also have to be accountable for our actions to others and our environs because we are responsible for what the unit does or fails to achieve. Accountability is important during deployments where the leader has to make sure no one is left behind, to make sure the team is ready when needed, helps to keep the team in an organized manner and always ready. Organized equipment, weapon gear, and the team assist leaders to accomplish organizational objectives and goals, are ready for duties, meetings and activities and duties. These and other activities in the unit cannot be accomplished if there is no accountability. As leaders, we are not supposed to be accountable for unprofessional activities that our teams or units engage in unless you are aware of what they are deciding to do against military laws.
