Diversity presents as the characteristics that inspire or support the perception of the difference between individuals (Janasz et al., 2018). The depiction exposed my opinion about individuals practicing eastern religions as unique exemplifies a sense of diversity. Reflecting on the chapter, I realize that there are no fundamental differences between people. However, people perceive differences based on biased concepts.
The chapter persuades the view that the ideology of diversity is crucial because it affects socialization. Diversity affects trust and causes people to approach others as strangers rather than peers (Janasz et al., 2018). Non-inclusive opinions harm social relationships as they trigger political perspectives or allow the generalization of negative stereotypes. I learned that diversity could cause unexplained unnecessary hostility between people. The consequences can manifest as disrupted performance as communities constitute people from distant regions and cultural backgrounds.
