For effective communication to occur, the focus does not have to be solely on the speakers' communication skills. Still, audience listening skills also play an integral role in establishing good communication. There are three different types of listeners, and each needs to have specific listening skills relevant to them. When I assume the role of an informational listener, I usually do employ attentive listening skills. This is important as it helps me as the listener avoid distractions and instead captures all the information shared by the speaker.
On the other hand, when I listen to engage in evaluation and analysis, my active listening skills, such as frequent prompting, usually come into play. With proper active listening skills, listeners tend to understand what speakers say and how they say it and why it is said, vital in evaluating and analyzing the information.
