In an era where self-publishing permeates people’s lives, TikTok has existed on almost everyone’s phone. The popularity of TikTok has also attracted a large group of young people in the world. In this paper, I will explore how this form of self-publishing-short videos has been successful and mutually beneficial to its users.
The desire for a better life has become the main theme of Chinese people’s life today
The most fundamental meaning of the existence of Tiktok is to seize the main contradiction of the current society - the people’s desire for a better life and the unbalanced and insufficient development. People who have already achieved a well-off life are happy to share their good life, but more people who are still not living a good life are aspiring to this life, as seen in the slogan of Tiktok: “Record the good life.” So, why not share the good life? This is to take care of the feelings of more viewing users, after all, most of the users are still viewers rather than creators. However, the recording of good lives happens to make people live in desire of things and levels of life that they cannot attain. The implication of the above is that more people are stressed and uncomfortable with their current lives and live in aspiration of another ‘good’ and ‘better’ life.
Solve the pain point of today’s youth time fragmentation
We are now living in an era where productivity has reached its extreme, and we no longer need to think about survival for war, hunger, disease, etc. The only thing we need to consider is how to run our lives. Only, in this era, being intentional about life often comes at an extremely high cost of time. The most time investment may occur in the choice, from what to eat for breakfast, which of these clothes is better, every rational choice, means the loss of time. The higher your demand for quality of life, the more time you invest, the greater the loss. Of course, there are some other reasons for time fragmentation, so let’s not press here. TikTok launched a 15-second short video on the basis of this is to solve the fragmentation of young people’s time.
