A research conducted by Joy Buolamwini, a graduate student in a class studying facial-recognition programs, shows a good relationship between power and data. Boulamwini's research indicates that facial analysis technology was not able to detect her face (D'Ignazio & Klein, 2019). Through her experiments, she discovers that the software gets based on a specific demographic which consisted of 78 per cent male and 84 per cent white; only 4 per cent were female and dark-skinned, like herself (D'Ignazio & Klein, 2019).
