Organizations and companies pass through various development stages to ensure they flourish. Toyota Motor Corporation is one such company. The Toyota production system was invented by Kiichiro Toyoda, the founder and the second president of the Toyota motor corporation. His main intentions were to simplify production by cutting costs while maintaining high quality and maximizing profit. The system involved machines such as robots to streamline work, although craftsmanship was still necessary since robots cannot think of themselves but needed input commands from skilled humans (Ohno, 1982). The system worked in such a way that when a situation deviates from normal, a signal is sent then the vehicle automatically stops to prevent damage to other parts of the car.
Heijunka refers to a technique companies use to ensure they only produce what is needed to make a particular vehicle. All critical parts are assembled in a specific order to eliminate product wastage and minimize time. In addition, they employ the principle of just in time to smoothen the production process.
