 Stereotypes die hard, and of Asian Americans are expected to excel and behave in certain ways there is enormous pressure to the youth and their parents. Despite the stereotype that Asians area model minority who have succeeded through hard work and high education attainment, if there is a breakdown on countries of origin, those who came as refugees, and their children have poor academic attainment (Fuchs, 2017). One problem with the 'model minority’ stereotype is that the parents overwork and may fail to give adequate attention to their children.
Anti-Asian and anti-immigrant have at times affected the personal lives of Asian Americans who have been made scapegoats and attacked. The 1982 case of Vincent Chin murdered in Detroit by two men who only paid and avoided jail after a plea bargain. Public apprehension against Asian highlights attempts to exclude them and blame them for ‘taking away jobs’ and not being fully American (Warikoo, 2017).  Others including African Americans, Arab Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos,  have been attacked simply because of their race and Vincent Chin Remembrance Day highlights the need to deal with and xenophobic sentiments
