Communication can be verbal, nonverbal, or written. Verbal communication uses word and is effective when appropriate tone, pitch, and content. Another way that message is passed across is through nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication includes facial expressions, gestures, or touch. A smile or furrowed eyebrows can tell how a person responds to communication. Finally, people use written communication to pass messages from one person to another.
The first process that a sender engages in is formulating a message. The sender considers the receiver and the intention of the message. For example, a formal message should be written in a formal language to ensure effectiveness. Message formulation means determining the content of the message and how it should be delivered. A message meant for a professional reason is formulated differently from that being sent to a friend. The thought process has some differences from languages because people usually think using their native background. However, a language may be similar despite people coming from different backgrounds.
