An e-commerce site might not want to report that it was targeted by cyber criminals because it might lose credibility with its customers. Many customers or clients do not feel safe if they know an e-commerce site such as a bank has previously or repeatedly been hacked and robbed by cyber criminals. It becomes hard for clients to trust the level of online security offered by such a site and so the site could lose its e-marketing channel. There is a high potential of losing current and future customers because people will be scared to browse such a website for fear of being hacked (Leena, 2011).
Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks refer to threats that try to prevent legitimate users of a firm’s website or other networks from access because they use brute force to take over the network capacity leaving legitimate users with none. Mölsä (2005) believes that the best way to stop them is to protect the network by partnering with ISPs providers.
