When conducting research, one must consider the ways that will answer the questions the study is investigating. One has to utilize methodologies, strategies, and processes that offer invaluable information. Qualitative and quantitative research methods are the most commonly used research methods for several reasons.
According to Apuke, the qualitative research method is an exploratory method of research. It is utilized to understand the causal reasons and opinions behind experiences, emotions, and behavior (Apuke, 2017, pp. 40). It does so by providing insight that then forms the foundation ideas and hypothesis in qualitative research. Contrary, quantitative analysis, on the other hand, is the method of research that collects numerical data that can then be ranked, measured or classified through statistics. It quantifies attitudes, opinions, behavior, and other variables and then uses them to come up with facts and patterns in research (Apuke, 2017, pp. 40).
Similarities
The two research methods share various similarities. One, the two utilize participants to acquire information. In these methods, data is valuable in achieving their goals of forming a hypothesis or testing concepts by use of statistics. Qualitative research requires participants to answer questions while quantitative research requires participants so it can use their numbers to generate results (Smith & Zajda, 2018, pp. 75-77).
Two, they utilize various tools of measurement. Qualitative research takes the data expressed by participants in the form of words and action and analyzes it to make a hypothesis. Such a hypothesis include whether an image made respondents feel happy or sad. Similarly, quantitative research takes the numbers of the results counted, for instance, five respondents were delighted, and two were sad and use them to conclude.
