E-commerce has become important in this day and age of digital technologies and has led to the emergence of subsequent business practices on digital platforms. Marketing is one of the core business practices that has been heavily featured in e-commerce. Umbro (2015) introduces a fairly new concept, remarketing, to denote the idea to perform target marketing by including additional incentives to a product or service that had previously been marketed via the digital platforms. With the widespread use of online platforms and social media, remarketing has become a pretty easy task.
The implementation of e-commerce and marketing strategy on digital platforms is normally an agile process and sometimes may bring about complexities on the sites, poor description of the checkout process, or even the checkout might require too much information that the customers are not willing to give out. This increases the skepticism with the use of online platforms for making purchases in addition to high shipping costs that might be the case for some products. The need to attract more customers and win loyalty via digital platforms, coupled with the high percentages of consumers leaving their orders on the cart are the driving forces behind the high prevalence of remarketing in this era of digital technologies.
