When working interculturally, gestures and body language may get misinterpreted. When multiple cultures interact it is important to recognize that gestures or types of nonverbal communication may have different meanings in the various cultures. Therefore participants who engage in a communication process must be aware that difficulties may arise when gestures are being interpreted by members of cultures with different origins or backgrounds.

In a 1- to 2-minute video response,
Explain the value of nonverbal communication in daily communications.
Select two miscommunication issues that may arise during nonverbal communication.
Indicate how the issues could be addressed.
Mention at least one source that supported your ideas in the video (author, title, and date published).
You must provide a script with your video post to the discussion forum.

Select a gesture that caused miscommunication in two of your peers’ posts that you were not familiar with, and explain how it could be properly interpreted and misinterpreted. Determine what the intended message was and at least one other meaning that could be derived from what was posted by your peer.
Explain how you would avoid or repair the miscommunication by utilizing different nonverbal cues than was previously used. Be sure to use a strategy that is different from that of your peer’s initial post.
