SAS has a modern onsite health center for its employees. The facility has over 50 medical plus support staff, 5 lab technicians, 3 registered dietitians, 3 physicians, 3 physical therapists, a psychologist and 11 nurse practitioners. The health center is always open not only employees but to their families as well. This means the company employees have access to high quality and reliable as well as convenient health care. There is also provision for childcare onsite implying ease time for employees with children.
Fitness center
Company employees of SAS have free access to fitness centers are located onsite. SAS goes a mile further to subsidize offsite gym memberships. This encourages staff to keep fit while both at work and outside office. Physically fit employees rarely fall sick. A result of healthy employees is reduced absenteeism and reduced health care budget. Personally, healthy people are more productive at work place and personal endeavors. Fit employees sustain more energy in the course of the day at work leading to focus and improved performance. Health has a direct correlation to self-confidence after proving themselves by achieving fitness. Self-confidence leads to empowerment and desire to challenge oneself to higher levels of achievement in life.
Research shows physically fit employees have better attitudes and "feel good" generally. Such individuals have a higher degree of physical and mental balance leading to a positive attitude at workplace and general life. Fitness gives opportunity to team-building activities like games that improve professional relationships, discovering new ideas of working better together. Fit employees generally have less stress as far as life issues are concerned. Through regular exercises, emotional and physical tensions are release. This demonstration of concern for employees by SAS pays off. It has been proved that turnover in companies that proper wellness programs are significantly low.
Work-life
SAS has provision of job-sharing for its employees. Job-sharing means there is a full-time position which is filled by two people. It means two sets of experience and skills are in one position. This brings a wider range of skills to the position as compared to one employee resulting in better job product. Job-sharing reduces strain of trying to balance work and personal responsibilities; therefore, each job partner gives the best on the job. This results in better performance, increased productivity and morale.
The employees enjoy flexibility resulting from part-time hours. They also share knowledge, skills and skills from one another making them more technical professionally. Each partner in the role can meet the job demands at the same time upholding improved life/work balance. While working in the same position, each employee retains the responsibility of the full-time position. Research shows that such work schedules enable employees to engage in other roles or businesses elsewhere therefore earning more.
