Core values refer to beliefs, principles, forces and priorities that determines individual’s actions and conducts as well as those of an organization. They are meant to foster a healthy relation between people, organizations and other organizations as well as organizations and their prospective clients. Core ideals always abridged in the organization vision statement. There are several values which are highly regarded as core, especially at workplaces and in organizations (Beck, 2003). They include hard work, accountability, commitment, consistency, integrity, passion, diversity, performance, respect, culture, service excellence and leadership among others.
The above mentioned core values are very essential for the success of any organization or workplace. There are several ways through which people can acquire these values or change the same values too. First and foremost, the values are acquire through personal beliefs (Frances, 2007). For instance, when you believe that people should work hard in order to get good results from whatever they venture into. Such beliefs may help one acquire important values in life such as value of hard work. In addition to beliefs, these values may also be acquired through life experiences. For illustration purposes, take a case of Peterson who runs a small shop in San Francisco. Peterson was never honest in his business. The size and quantity of his products were much different from the way they appeared in the advertisement.
Peterson packed less products but indicated different quantity on the package. All these he did in an attempt to get much return, not until his customers discovered this and the information spread to everyone. Later on, Peterson had lost so much customers and his business was not doing well. This was a very frustrating encounter to Peterson until he resolved to honesty. After a struggling efforts and much coercion, Peterson finally got his business running smoothly, although he had acquired a very core value of honesty. These values can also be acquired from counselors. For example, Mary, a student of the University of Harvard started experiencing negative trends in her academic results until she visited a counselor.
