Target population refers to people or consumers that the business organization is interested in researching and analyzing. Often, before the research begins, organizations identify and agree on the target population for their goods and services (Noble & Smith, 2015). Business firms regularly conduct a market analysis to determine consumer tastes and preferences towards their products and services. Examples of the target population are students at a particular college, people of a selected country, and the organization’s consumer base.
The theoretical population, on the other hand, refers to people that an organization or researcher applies their conclusion as a result of shared characteristics of interest of the target population (Aykol & Leonidou, 2015). This population is the same as the target population in a way that both can be generalized. Often, the hypothetical population is finite and countable. An example of a theoretical community is youths between the ages of 20-30
The accessible population is the sample in research to which the researching organization can apply their assumptions. It is also referred to as the study population. This sample is often derived from the target population (Noble & Smith, 2015). An example of the accessible population is a researcher conducting a study on consumers of Ontario instead of analyzing the whole city of consumers in Canada.
The selected sample involves actively selecting members of the population that are considered by the researcher to be most representative of the target persons outlined in the inventory program. Examples of selected samples are specific areas designated by the researcher to monitor because it is not possible to follow the whole site. An Actual sample refers to a group of research units from which the researcher can get the information. An example of an actual sample is psychologists basing their research on the live population only and not including the dead.
