Which of the EI building blocks would impact management’s ability to enhance employee performance and job satisfaction?

Explain how the core concepts of emotional intelligence would enhance the decision-making efficacy of the management team.

Introduction
The success of any organization depends immensely on the productivity of its employees. Productive employees and a supportive management team are integral in helping an organization meet its short-term and long-term goals. In the case of my organization, the issues of job dissatisfaction and poor relationship management limit its potential for success. In this regard, a comprehensive professional development program tailored towards motivating members of the organization can go a long way in aligning it to success. With the support of the organization’s CEO, such a program will not only boost job satisfaction, but it will also improve employee retention and the overall success of the organization. This paper presents a professional development program based on emotional intelligence (EI) that will seek to motivate employees and improve the performance of the organization.
EI and Motivation
One of the essential skills for a manager is EI, which can be defined as the ability to understand one’s emotions and that of other people and to utilize this understanding for effective management of relationships (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, & Uhl-Bien, 2010). The key building blocks of EI are social awareness, self-management, relationship management, and self-awareness (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, & Uhl-Bien, 2010). Of these, relationship management and self-awareness will boost significantly the ability of the management to boost employee performance and job satisfaction. As determined in the research analysis, the organization is characterized by poor relationship management as employees even argue with customers. Therefore, a focus of the program on self-awareness and relationship management can solve some of the key problems in the organization. As described by Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, and Uhl-Bien (2010), self-awareness refers to one’s ability to understand their emotions and how they affect work as well as other people. Relationship management, on the other hand, revolves around how to build rapport with others to develop relationships and influence their emotions positively. It is easy to see how these EI building blocks will boost employee performance and job satisfaction because a positive team environment that is characterized by respect and understanding of one another will be created.
The Two-Factor Theory by Frederick Herzberg will be employed to influence the members of the organization and address job dissatisfaction and relationship management. According to the theory, some of the key factors associated with job dissatisfaction include working conditions, relationships with peers, and job security while those that enhance job satisfaction are growth, achievement, recognition, and responsibility (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, & Uhl-Bien, 2010). In this regard, the program will seek to develop and implement policies characterized by the recognition, growth, and achievement of employees while cultivating an environment where there is a good working relationship among employees and also between management and subordinates.
