Subject: Recommended Changes to Amazon's Alexa-enabled smart speakers
It is without a doubt that Amazon's Alexa-enabled smart speakers have been a revolution to the world. The new gadget has played an essential role in reminding users of their daily routines if they tend to forget them. Many people have benefited a lot from the reminders they get from Alexa through their Echo speaker or an Android phone. Notably, the Echo Dot has been effective in helping persons with deteriorating vision problems, especially the old-aged. In this sense, the Alexa-enabled smart speakers by Amazon have eased the lives of many people, given that most people worldwide have adopted lifestyles characterized by busy schedules and limited time.
Since they were introduced into the market, there have been several concerns about the Alexa-enabled smart speakers. In essence, the primary concern has been the issue of the privacy policy. Some people are worried that such devices may be intruding into their privacy and are unsure of how many people "outside there" are accessing the data been processed and stored by the smart speakers (Malkin et al., 2019). Other people in the market are concerned that Alexa-enabled smart speakers may increase their vulnerability to hackers (Malkin et al., 2019). There are also concerns that Alexa can detect voices outside the range of human hearing. Another criticism is that smart speakers are all female raises inequality concerns. Subsequently, it would be better for Amazon to explore these concerns and help increase customer confidence in the Alexa-enabled smart speakers.
