A situational analysis is used to analyze the internal and external factors that influence a business or organization. In most cases, situational analysis for organizations is usually done through SWOT analysis. Netflix has grown to become the world’s leading streaming company. It is estimated that Netflix has over 167 million subscribers from parts of the world and has paid memberships in more than 190 nations (Lobato, 2019). Netflix was founded in 1997 as a DVD sale and rental services before expanding to television and film production. Like any other organization, Netflix has several strengthens and weaknesses and is faced with opportunities and threats.
SWOT Analysis
Netflix Strengths:
One of them is that Netflix has a huge customer base from all parts of the world. The company serves more than 167 million customers making it have a strong trading power. Another aspect is that Netflix has been experiencing steady revenue growth in the past years (Lobato, 2019). The continued increase in both domestic and international streaming segment has resulted in the company earning more revenues. Another strength for Netflix is its uniqueness as it only provides original content with superior quality to those offered by competitors. More so, the organization is boosted by its adaptability to various ever-emerging advanced technologies. Netflix can also outdo their competitors due to excellent and modest pricing approaches (Lobato, 2019). The pricing packages for Netflix are suited to meet the various needs of its customers. Netflix also benefits from brand value and is the best place most customers prefer online streaming services (Lobato, 2019). Additionally, Netflix is enhanced by its excellent and user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate and customized to enhance customers' easy usability and usage. These are some strengthens that gives Netflix a competitive advantage in the market.
Netflix Weaknesses:
Netflix is also faced with several weaknesses that may hamper its competitiveness in the market. One of them is limited copyrights as Netflix does not own most of the content it produces. Another problem is hampered by an ever-increasing debt, which has resulted from geographic diversification to offer contents in different parts of the world, thus requiring a lot of money to operate.
