In the land of free trade, the public does not view all industries as equal. Do you believe that is ethical? Do you believe that some industries are unfairly targeted? Should it be consumers’ choice to partake in products that are not healthy for them, or do those companies have an ethical obligation to protect people? In this assignment, you will choose one (1) industry to write about. Possible industries to research could be tobacco, soda, alcohol, casinos, or candy companies, just to name a few.
Write a one and a half to two (1½ - 2) page paper in which you:
TYPE THE QUESTION EXAMPLE QUESTION 1 AND THEN YOUR RESPONSE, QUESTION 2 THEN YOUR RESPONSE, QUESTION 3 THEN YOUR RESPONSE. TYPE THE QUESTION IN BOLD INK. YOUR RESPONSE SHOULD NOT BE IN BOLD INK. THE QUESTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Become an advocate for either the consumer or the industry. Prepare an argument explaining the major reasons why you support either the consumer or the industry. 
2. Explain the role capitalism plays in corporate decision making.
3. Discuss if you believe it is possible for a company to cater to both its best interest and that of the consumer conjointly or if one always has to prevail. Justify your response.

Not all the industries can be viewed as equal when some posing threats to the health of the consumers. For instance, tobacco industry cannot be equal to bakery industry because the former causes harmful effects to its consumer while the later does not. Even though the consumers may have the freedom to partake of its products, I do not support that they should be held responsible for their choices. The industry should have a legal obligation to be responsible for the outcomes of their products and protect their consumers. I base my argument on the fact that tobacco industry is aware of the addictive nature, and negative effects cigarettes have caused among the population, but it still goes out of the way to entice consumers to use its products.
It is true that the consumers have a choice on whether to use tobacco products or not, which is not the problem. The problem arises when the industry is working tirelessly hard to advertise its products luring those who are ignorant of the consequences. Furthermore, to those people who are aware of the dangers of tobacco, the industry uses a cutting-edge method of advertisement that involves downplaying and covering the severity of the products detrimental effects (Stanford research, 2015). The public cannot trust this industry because it keeps hiding the truth from the consumers about the fatal effects of its products.
