Issues on gender equality, as mentioned in our lessons, strongly influenced the way society treats each gender, leading to preemptive or stereotyped roles, that existed from the past up to the present. The humans of the modern ages continuously advocate defying these stereotypes and the efforts of many have resulted in countless changes in society. However, some of the stereotypes remain and we can view these based on some written academic references.
In the past, women were treated as weak and vulnerable human beings whose tasks are mainly related to reproduction, family, and housework. They were not given important tasks or positions in society despite having sufficient knowledge and skills. However, these views have changed over time as women gradually stood up and be known to the world.
Northouse (2019) states that at present, women represent the larger population of those who gained graduate and postgraduate education compared to men. Fifty-seven, sixty, and fifty percent of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees, respectively were achieved by women compared to their men counterparts.
