Discussion Topic 1:What industry sectors tend to be better performers? Why? How may Covid-19 lead to growth in certain sectors and the decline of other sectors that will have to ‘re-invent’ themselves to make them competitive? You may pick a sector from healthcare, education, retail, hospitality, manufacture, IT, or transport.
The Education Sector needs to have better performers. Due to Covid-19, face to face classes have all been replaced with online classes. This means that the students and both teachers need to synchronize their time and attention so that they can focus on the learning. The major change is that physical infrastructures are disregarded, and substituted with an online interface to facilitate education. The quality of education is compromised in the online setting. Students have more freedom to do what they like, meaning, their attention can veer off from the discussion because there are no means to regulate their activity in their home in times of synchronous online classes. Teachers must deliver education through modular sets of activities that are pre-arranged to ensure that the curriculum is met and delivered properly. The problem with this setting is that students may become lax because there is less pressure when they are in the comfort of their own houses, unlike in face to face classes, the student is within the classroom and have no other choice but to listen and put their attention towards the teacher and the lesson.
In the online setting, a student has a tendency to not listen to the discussion, and put their attention towards online content that is not relevant to the class. In this sense, the education sector needs to develop better means of disseminating effective education. The type of requirements that are necessitated must be adjusted for the students to ensure that they are able to keep up with the pace learning in time of Covid-19.
