Introduction
The most motivating driving force in establishing economic integration is overcoming economic bottlenecks and introducing new policies and regulations to stabilize the economy. The Greater Bay Area of Guandong, Hong Kong, comprises nine cities, two administrative regions, and over 66 million population and is considered a great attraction for investors to strengthen their productivity (Shao et al., 2020). It has recently issued an "Outline Development Plan for the Guandong," emphasizing regional economic development and fostering ongoing processes to deepen China's reforms. The previous policies on cross-border collaboration are based on harmonization and integration to strengthen the economy. Leveraging the advantages of location and the strong plan is expected to stimulate the dynamic mechanism for the entire region (Li & Kwok, 2019). The purpose of the paper is to synthesize six articles to research whether GBA has become the world's No. 1 regional economy.
Analysis of Articles
The first article chosen is from Li & Kwok's (2019) research. The role of the outline development plan for the Guandong in fostering the process and meeting the challenges of Belt and Road Initiatives. Furthermore, the regional economic growth and development are based on the GBA policy. The concepts emerged that the GBA concepts with deeper collaboration and framework of "one country, two systems." GBA plans serve citizens' well-being with a dynamic mechanism of change and innovations (key themes) to strengthen the areas like China and the BRI. The article patterns are the areas and comparisons of the 2017 framework agreement and 2019 outline development plan. However, the article does not highlight the challenges posed by stakeholders and search into the quest for framework governance to execute detailed measures. Therefore, it is uncertain whether the policies would be flexible to adapt.
The second article chosen is from Hui et al. (2018). The key themes that emerged are strengthening economic development and creating a powerful Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) globally. The major concepts of the study are integration and connection affecting the region's growth. Visualizing the results using modern technologies like Big Data, improving railway services, and census data. The research patterns are based on planning recommendations and implications for city planners for regional governance and cooperation region-wide and worldwide. The current article emphasizes human movements and portrays the information accordingly. Unlike Li & Kwok's (2019) research, the article emphasizes that the growth of transport infrastructure would harness regional integration at GBA. However, the article does not highlight ways to integrate the GBA, which is necessary for long-lasting consideration and the role of partnership and synergies to develop sustainability and equitably.
