Target stores are the United States second largest discount chain after Wal-Mart. They are upscale discount stores and they do provide quality merchandise in customer friendly stores. They have over 1,300 stores in 47 states. The stores have photo processing, pharmacy, and food restaurants services offered.
Logistics is a very important process in the target company as it sells different products and its supply chain includes many vendors, carriers and consolidators. Target Corporation has partnered with NTE OMS an e-transportation leader so that it can provide a technology based solution for the Target Stores ready to ship operations. This has led to improved and efficient transportation management (Paul, 2001). This has improved quality since the company is able to visibly make comparisons electronically of the shipments and orders in order to know if they are as per the needed quality and quantity. They also can validate orders before shipment and also cancel orders that are not up to per and so this eliminates the processing of invalid orders. Target Corporation has also employed qualified personnel who are responsible for quality checks of the products. Target also has partnered with Par logistics management system a logistic company which offers information on how to monitor reefer temperatures and on how to optimize logistics and how to manage cold chain assets and resources. This helps to maintain quality of the products. The company also offers alerts and alarms of reefer temperatures, operability, low fuel and abnormal or excessive fuel use and reefer dwell time (Dragan, Rados, 2008). This ensures that the transportation of these products is safe and the quality is maintained.
