An ethical dilemma is a situation where there is a difficult choice to make between two or more options available to them. These available options require the decision-maker to either violate or compromise their ethical standards. In other words, a moral dilemma exists when ethical standards and principles conflict in a decision-making process. To break the puzzle, the individual weighs the options and chooses the one with a few negative impacts on the situation. This essay uses two case studies: "Get it done" and "In your face," to identify ethical dilemmas and apply normative approaches to the dilemmas.
In "Get it done," Mark is in a dilemma of whether to get the deal done without bothering Taylor with the compliance stuff or to involve Taylor, whom he wants to demonstrate to that he can navigate through the roadblocks (Benjamin & Skinner, n.d). Ignoring the compliance documentation to proceed with the deal may jeopardize Mark's reputation and put the bank at risk, especially if the transaction between the bank and Hydrangea subsidiary is linked to illegal activities like fraud, corruption, terrorism, and money laundering. He may be held accountable for allowing such a deal to occur despite understanding the risks. Bothering Taylor, whom he overheard, promising a condensed deadline would limit his promotion chances due to claims of his inability to solve the problem independently.
In the ''In Your face'' case, the dilemma is whether to use the Skype interview and trust Louis's Beta version of a program that he claims can analyze blood-flow changes in people's faces on camera or consider on the physical interview (Kriegstein, n.d). Louis's program may not be accurate about the candidates, and trusting it may eliminate qualified candidates. Perhaps, Louis has his preferred candidates to be recruited.
