Abstract
Point-of-sale system has changed how companies operate. Today, every business intends to conduct its activities using a point-of-sale system due to its advantages. The high volumes of cash and credit cards used in restaurants every day make a POS system a necessity. Studies show that POS system tracks every penny of sales and acts as credit card processors, making swiping credit cards more secure for the business and customers. All the sales are stored in the system’s servers and any attempt to alter checks in the computer is impossible because the technology is password-protected. It is only accessible to authorized parties. Kimball’s, a family owned business, uses the traditional paper system to record and track sales, purchases, and revenue. It does not have a system that provides updated information about its financial position. Installing a new POS in Kimball’s restaurant will benefit both the organization and the customers. This technology will improve the restaurant’s services and increase convenience.
Enhancing Products and Services
Kimball's restaurant is a family-owned business that has been thriving in the past. Recently, the management realized that the restaurant requires new strategies to remain competitive in the hospitality industry (Sousa & Oz, 2014). The business uses the traditional paper system to record and track sales, purchases, and revenue. It lacks a system that can give updated information about its financial position, calling for an advanced information system that will offer improved services to its customers (Sousa & Oz, 2014). For that reason, the restaurant’s management needs a system that will help track transactions and provide simplified financial statements for better decision-making (Sousa & Oz, 2014). Therefore, the solution to Kimball’s problems is the installation of a new Point-of-sale (POS) system. Adopting this technology will help Kimball's serve correct orders made by the customers on time and increase their satisfaction.
Advantages of Installing a New POS in Kimball’s Restaurant
A POS system refers to a network of cashier and server terminals that handles food and beverage orders, transmits orders to the kitchen and bar, settles guest checks, and redeploy interactive charges to guest folios (Gillum & Rob, 2011). It connects servers with the back office and kitchen. With POS, employees cannot guess sales transactions since all information is stored in an easily acceptable place (Abel & Obeten, 2015). POS information can also be transmitted to accounting and food cost /inventory software packages. Various reports such as open checks, sales analysis, server sales summary, menu mix, cashier, tip, and labor cost can be generated using POS (Huber et al., 2010). Advanced systems can produce numerous reports. The following are the benefits of installing a new POS in Kimball's restaurant.
