By identifying the key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that affect companies the most, we can identify the competitive edge of one company over the other within the same industry. Comparing two companies using SWOT analysis allows us to understand the influences of internal and external strategic factors of the companies in the industry they operate in. * Market Strengths Below are some the reasons as to why McDonald’s has more market strengths as compared than Wendy’s. First, McDonald’s has a significant global presence with its restaurants operating in over 120 countries with its vast presence both internally and internationally. Due to massive brand equity, it has one of the most recognizable logos globally. These strengths are contrary to Wendy’s which operates in 46 countries globally with most of its operation based in North America. The massive global presence makes McDonald’s more competitive and able to reach a broader clientele globally as compared to Wendy’s. McDonald's has over 36,000 restaurants in operation globally. It has increased its footprints through franchises becoming the top-ranked restaurant on global 2000 (McGrath, 2017). McDonald's has positioned itself strategically to grow its sales with its restaurants being located in major airports globally, cities and favorite tourist locations. With large economies of scale, the company is relatively affordable with customer friendly prices thus increasing its sales revenues. On the other hand, Wendy ’s has only 6500 restaurants globally, representing a considerable difference in company operations compared to McDonald's. The large number of McDonald's restaurants positions the company ahead of Wendy’s making it more less competitive globally. * Market weaknesses Wendy’s has a limited global reach....
