25% of final grade Due: December 10, 2020
Environmental issues are important to everyone these days and a hotel can make a big difference to the environment.  Since Housekeeping is one of the largest departments in a hotel, they can help make the largest impact.
Purpose:
To establish 3 Environmental measures in the Housekeeping Department, that will benefit the guest, the housekeeper and the hotel’s bottom line.  This is due December 10, 2020 and presentation must be uploaded on Blackboard.
Process:
1. You are to come up with 3 Environmental changes in the Housekeeping department that will affect 1- The Guest, 2 – The Housekeeper and 3- The Hotel (CANNOT USE LINEN RE-USE PROGRAM AS THAT ONE IS WIDELY PRACTICED ALREADY).   For each item describe what measures you will put into place and how each of the 3 will benefit by incorporating these measures   (FOR EXAMPLE: By bringing your own lunch each day instead of buying take out lunch you will save  approximately $30.00 a week – take out food and gas money to drive to restaurants)
2. Address the following questions:
a. Environmental Measures:  List 3 items that will help improve the environment for the Housekeeper, The Guest and The Hotel (Bottom Line).
b. What has to be done to incorporate these measures:  What steps and/or expenditures have to be made to introduce these new measures.
c. What are the benefits to each.  Describe how the new measures will benefit the Housekeeper (i.e. time, labour, personal gain), The Guest (i.e. atmosphere, money or impressions) and The Hotel Owners (money, labour, community impressions).  
3. Bonus marks for creativity.
Format of Presentation:
• As this is an environmental assignment, no paper report is required (let’s do out part to save the environment), so this will be a Powerpoint presentation.
• Title page including students name and Student number.
• This is not an essay; however information must be presented in an organized manner outlined in sections referring to each question.   
• Should consist of at least 4 slides (including cover slide) but should not exceed 12 slides.
• Spelling and grammar will be evaluated.

Three Environmental Changes in Housekeeping I. Environmental Change: The Housekeeper
For housekeepers, in-room service is a demanding job, particularly during seasons. The influx of guests into certain preferable suits, rooms and/or areas could place considerable burden on housekeeping staff. For instance, “greasy” or stained” spots on walls, floors and/or curtains are not uncommon in suits, rooms and/or areas occupied by guests on extended stays. Using detergents is a common “solution” yet, given growing awareness of and rejection of chemicals in general, using detergents could generate negative views guests share online and, as a consequence, cause considerable damage to brand image. Instead, disposable sheets could be used to cover walls, floors and/or curtains in order to avoid enduring stains. These “disposable sheets” are, essentially, fine, see-through covers placed on top of walls, floors and/or curtains. These disposable sheets should consider for risk factors (e.g. suffocation of minors during play), allergies (e.g. of seniors experiencing one or more age-related disease and/or complication), and/or any given precautionary measures to ensure guest safety and convenience. To use such disposable sheets, housekeeping staff need only place a schedule (on door knob) to inform guests of certain hours to change “used” disposable sheets. The major benefit of using disposable sheets is, of course, sparing much effort invested by housekeeping staff in order to perform much needed jobs an/or simply enjoy more breaks during seasons. II.
