You will be assigned, at random, a specific company. You must write your paper on this company. Prepare and submit an individual analytical paper that achieves the following:

  1. Provide a brief introduction of the organization, including its industry or line of business, and product or service. Assume that the reader does not know this business.
    1. Research the situation summarized below regarding the organization’s ethical failure. Offer a brief explanation of what happened, and your thoughts on the cause(s) of this ethical failure.
    2. 3.      Imagine that due to this situation, the CEO and board of this company decide to transform from an economic model toward a stakeholder or integrative model of corporate social responsibility. They ask you to provide an executive summary of which model the company should use, and what this new direction might look like. Some questions you should answer include:
      1. Which CSR model more appropriately fits the business’s mission and values?
      2. Are there stakeholders on whom the business should focus in this new direction?
      3. Which ethical philosophical frameworks do you believe should guide the business leaders? Why?
      4. Identify a potential program, activity or strategy that the business should take up in advancing this new direction.
      5. How would this new direction reflect upon and/or address the ethical failure(s) discussed above?

v  In your analysis, you may use any quality sources you believe are relevant. However, you must consider and reflect upon the article provided below and at least three of the following:

The entity distributes pharmaceuticals, specialty drugs, medical equipment, and care management tools. It also provides healthcare information technology solutions to various healthcare systems. The firm delivers a third of its Pharmaceuticals across North America, has employed over 78,000 individuals, and had revenues of $238.2 billion as of 2021. Nonetheless, it partners with other care providers, governments, commissioners, manufacturers, stakeholders, biopharma companies, and pharmacies to provide the best medical products, medicines, and healthcare information insights necessary for making quality care more affordable and accessible to all.
During the Coronavirus pandemic, the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) selected McKesson Corporation as the government's centralized distributor for ancillary COVID-19 kits and vaccines (such as Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna) under the Operation Wrap Speed (OWS) across America and abroad. The corporation has subsidiaries in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, among other countries.

Since the 1990s, the U.S. has been struggling with the opioid epidemic (CDC, 2011). According to the Opioid Overdose report by the CDC (2018), opioids are prescription drugs used to treat mild to severe pain. These drugs are prescribed by a doctor and can have serious side effects and risks, such as addiction and death. Common types of opioids include OxyContin, morphine, methadone, and hydrocodone. Currently, drug overdose (at 82.3%) remains the leading cause of death across the U.S. (Hedegaard et al., 2022). The opioid epidemic is argued to be caused by the increased prescription of painkillers, resulting in the misuse of non-prescription and prescription opioids before their addictive nature became apparent. The epidemic has led to the loss of licenses by many doctors, imprisonment, and the suing of most pharmacies. However, penalties against large drug corporations and pharmaceutical intermediaries have been rare until recently.
Most drug makers and distributors have faced lawsuits from states, cities, and counties for deceptively supplying opioids and ignoring the red flags that the drugs are channeled to unintended uses. The epidemic is blamed on pharmaceutical corporations and drug distribution companies. An example is the McKesson Corporation. In 2008, McKesson Corporation paid a fine of $13.25 million for failing to report large and suspicious orders of hydrocodone. In 2017, the company agreed to pay a civil penalty amounting to $150 million for violating the Controlled Substance Act on the supply of opioids.
Similarly, in 2020, Oklahoma sued McKesson for allegedly fueling the opioid crisis in the state. AmerisourceBergen and Cardinal Health further sued the company.
