Amazon’s Corporate Social Responsibility
A strategic shift from a profit-only model to a triple bottom line model (TBL) involves a company moving away from a focus on financial performance alone, to considering the social and environmental impacts of its operations as well. Amazon is an organization that has shifted its operations to the TBL mode, in order to guarantee a sustainable approach to business. In this regard, the company’s departments work together to support its CSR efforts. Similarly, its financial statements provide some insight into the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Finally, the organization has managed to be one of the frontrunners in CSR by implementing various practices in its operations. As such Amazon has become one of the organizations that are driving CSR initiatives in order to ensure that benefits from the business also help to uplift the community.
For instance, the marketing, human resource, and supply chain departments of the company work together to ensure that Amazon fulfills its CSR commitments. First, the marketing department communicates the company’s efforts to the public. The department uses various strategies such as social media, television, websites, and print media to publish the various actions that Amazon undertakes, in regard to CSR. For example, according to a recent report from the company, Amazon has enhanced its employment practices by ensuring that it offers the best possible compensation (Yu, Hassan, & Adhikariparajuli, 2022). The company also ensures that it pays equally without gender or racial discrimination. Further, Amazon also ensures that it uses renewable sources of energy as much as possible. Thus, the different departments of the company support each other to enable the organization to implement its CSR commitments.
Additionally, Amazon’s financial statements indicate its efforts to support CSR in various ways. For example, the documents provide disclosure of CSR expenses.
