1 What was most interesting to you in reviewing these resources?
The most interesting thing I noted while reading these articles was how the authors analyzed and articulated information. While reading the materials, I noticed that writing is not only a skill but also an art. The authors answered the right questions regarding the subject of the materials, using the correct literacy techniques and writing format. The material engages the reader by using images such as Marciela’s and the influenza virus, which keeps the reader hooked to the material. I was also fascinated because the materials were prepared from other researchers’ information. The authors consulted academic sources such as the Centers for Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The authors understand that only a few audiences already understand the information, taking them systematically through the topic while providing a lot of background information. For example, the reader is introduced to the influenza vaccine, followed by NIAID’s strategic plan regarding vaccination and the leading immunization strategies.
2 What did you learn from these resources about a universal vaccine?
I learned that universal immunization protects against more than one pathogen with long-lasting effects. NIAID’s strategic plan focuses on creating a vaccine that protects individuals against various strains of flu. A universal vaccine reduces the number of immunizations administered yearly and safeguards populations against potentially pandemic diseases.
