Music remains one of the most pivotal forms of communication of all time. It is an art that appeals to people’s emotions and life experiences and helps relieve pain and trigger a sense of freedom from the bondage of anguish and emotional discomfort. This paper explores the musical styles expressed by Marshmello, featuring Khalid in a 2017 song titled “Silence” vis a vis James Arthur’s hit song titled “Say You Won't Let Go.”
Silence is an anecdote of suffering and anguish that characterizes many people’s livelihoods. It explores the challenges and struggles that most people strive to brave on their way to success. Marshmello featuring Khalid, coined this song to be an encouragement to many and uplift their spirit during their struggle to excellence. One such uplifting quote from the song is “I’m in need of a savior, but I’m not asking for favors, my whole life, I’ve felt like a burden, I think so much, and I hate it, I’m so used to be in the wrong, I’m tired of caring, Loving never gave me a home, so I’ll sit here in the silence” (Marshmello, 2017, 1:48-2:13).
