Red Blue Green by Ellesworth Kelly
American Gothic by Grant Wood
A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat
Focus on analyzing the art itself and its relationship to its cultural background and to ideas connected to other paintings, rather than listing a lot of historical facts. It's good to have some historical context, but make sure that the art itself is at the center of your work. Thinking in terms of ideas rather than facts will help you focus. And including close-up slides of smaller parts of the artwork can help your audience see important details better.

The art of painting involves the use of pigments on surfaces to come up with a meaningful image. In some cases, the artist might decide to use oil on canvas or beaver boards to present their idea. Besides, the outcome of the painting depends on the artist's inspiration and intended meaning. Therefore, this paper will focus on analyzing the art of three paintings in relationship to the cultural backgrounds and the ideas of other paintings. Given its time of creation, the American Gothic painting follows modernism art (Frascina, 2018).
Red Blue Green by Ellesworth Kelly
Kelly aimed at achieving dynamism with flat surfaces through the use of the RED BLUE Green painting. It served as a bridge, connecting the multi-panel arts to his different layered and sculptural works. The art, created in 1963, followed the Hard-edge painting technique. According to this style of painting, abrupt transitions are evident between different color areas. Kelly uses a bright green background for the blue and red shapes. The technique has a relation to color filed painting and geometric abstraction. As evidenced in the painting, the style allows the painter to delineate areas of color with specific clarity and sharpness. This style of painting was famous in 1959, and by the 1960s, it had spread widely in California. The art is considered to be one of his signature works since it is painted on a flat surface and with no trace of the hand. The painting is an inspiration from natural forms and architectural works. Kelly uses abstraction in this painting to reconfigure structures from the real world. In the Red Green Blue painting, Kelly has effectively juxtaposed bold colors in the creation of a picture that represents both shape and color. The edges of the rectangle can be traced with the sides of the canvas. As well, the edges of the blue shape go beyond the canvas, leaving the viewer to finish the design in their imagination. The painting relates to its cultural background in terms of the items that the colors might be representing. The blue and green colors could be a representation of the water and earth, respectively. The blue shape appears to be elliptical as a swelling fluid and, thus, an indication of a water body. It lies amid the flat green earth. The scale of the painting can be compared to the billboard closeups and movie screens of the American form. However, the painting is an indication of the European biomorphic tradition. Besides, other paintings from the Hard-edge painting technique make use of either cool colors or a combination of both cool and bold colors to bring out a beautiful work of art.
American Gothic by Grant Wood
In this painting, Grant Wood used oil on beaver hood to come up with the stunning art. The figures in the art are highly detailed, have a rigid frontality, and have a polished style. His painting techniques follow the inspiration of Flemish Renaissance art. He had studied this kind of art betw...
