Previous music eras always influence the present music generation in one way or another. They are often bases of styles, rhythm, theme, or lyrics. Music from any era would always have an impact on its succeeding generation. Musicians or music artists make their rendition of famous songs of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, or even Frank Sinatra. The new cover versions of the present artists apply the trends and genre of their generations. For instance, the group The Black Eyed Peas (2010) made their modern version of Bill Medly and Jennifer Warnes' (2014) (I have Had) The Time of My Life; the group titled their version The Time (Dirty Bit). This type of modification of preexisting songs or compositions is expected in the music industry as it enhances music genres and generations.
In some cases, a preexisting song or past musicians influence the production of future songs. This paper let us look at how the band Led Zeppelin incorporated their music influencer in their song The Crunge. We will look at how James Brown's Sex Machine has influenced Led Zeppelin's song. We will also identify the difference it makes upon knowing the reference of Zeppelin's song.

The connection between Led Zeppelin and James Brown's song is more than just that of an influencer and the influenced. Led Zeppelin band refers to Brown's Sex Machine more humorously than sarcastic, as Krausz (1993) claimed in his book. Krausz (1993) thinks that Led Zeppelin sarcastically incorporated James Brown's Sex Machine in the composition of The Crunge. He explained that there is a reference on how The Crunge is produced and sang that "involves hearing certain modulations and syncopations" (Krausz, 1993, p. 113). However, aside from the probability of The Crunge being a sarcastic response to the Sex Machine, it is also a humorous tribute to a music influencer.
Krausz (1993) also claims that there is relevance in knowing the reference of The Crudge to Sex-Machine. He emphasizes that it is "essential" to listen to Led Zeppelin's song while acknowledging the existing reference (Krausz, 1993, p. 113). I believe it is true that there is a certain level of understanding of the song when you know its inspiration or reason for existence. Knowing a song's background story or facts about its production gives a listener a broader perspective in understanding the song.
