The most important idea I have learned is to design a safe and conducive family residence based on the guidelines by the International Residence Code (IRC). This can be done by merging various elements explained in the IRC in detail. A good example is providing a safe exit means for people living in residential areas (Kennon & Harmon, 2018). IRC stipulates that a residence only requires a minimum of one regulated exterior exit door in each place and that the main door should not be located through a garage. The main entrance must also have a height of not less than 78 inches (1981 mm) and a width not less than 32 inches (813mm) (Kennon & Harmon, 2018). Additionally, all external doors should not require a key to be used. Most notable, the technique I acquired is designing the exit door with a specific landing on both sides that makes it easy to open.
