Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741): Bassoon Concerto in g minor, RV 495
Vivaldi created various oboe concertos, and this are the two most used instruments, but the performers use the bassoon woodwind instrument and different string instruments such as the violin, viola, cello as well as the keyboard. Where the music begins in Presto, then Largo and Allegro, where the oboe and bassoon are used and the timbral nature of the instruments is high-quality. The orchestral and concert band has a simple melody, and there is emphasis on playing the bassoon. The rhythm is maintained in each of the three movements and the conductor is critical to the success of the performance and transition from one movement to the next.
Beethoven - Egmont Overture, op. 84, Bernstein, Vienna Philharmonic
Beethoven wrote the music incident as one of the act- drama Egmont and the instruments include the oboe and drums where the latter is heard at the begging, but is less prominent. In the concert, the audience and listeners are attentive, but perceptive. The music begins with a drum, and there is interplay between different instruments, but the performance is seamless. While there is harmony and rhythm are dynamic there are only minor changes in more changes in the melody. The music is played on the F minor and is one of the most recognizable incidental music. This concert piece is has a recitation performed and the performers were technically strong and able to reflect the upper string sound that came as a bit of a surprise. The classical music is enjoyable and I liked it is expressive and a large orchestra can perform and substitute instruments from the same group.
