On Broadway was originally sang in 1963 by The drifters, am American vocal band specializing in rhythm and blues CITATION The194 \l 1033 (The Drifters). It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia well in collaboration with Mike stoller and Jerry leiber all who are renown music writers. The genre of the song is soul characterized with call and response style, catchy but slow rhythms. The band was made top chart hit songs between 1950s all the way to mid-1960s. The same song was later in 1964 covered by the Dave Clark Five, a Britain band whose music is considered beat music genre, the particular song was done by the band in pop genre which is softer as compared to rock and roll. The band’s version is faster as compared to The drifters’ version that is soul hence slower. The instrumentation of pop music in the Dave Clarke five version is well heard, the original version is more jazz and blues in the instrumentation.
Bobby Day is well known for his hit song, Rockin Robin or rock-in robin which he recorded in 1958, it was written by Leon Rene going with the name Jimmie Thomas and the song was a successes and it was the biggest hit song in the era and it was number on in the R&B sales and was number 2 in the pop chart CITATION The195 \l 1033 (The Life and Music of Bobby Day). The song was produced in rock and roll genre and the fast beats and instrumentation can be heard. The song was later covered by a Britain band called The Hollies- in June 1964.
