Philip Glass is a renowned composer in the United States, especially in New York. As he usually described himself, he is the composer of music pieces with “repetitive structures.” His stylistic approach utilizes minimalism. As an individual, I love listening to Mad Rush because of its rich and unique musical approach. The composition is outstanding, with impressive tonal variations that make the piece appealing and attractive to the audience. When you listen through the performance, you can clearly understand that it is an outstanding music piece in a rush. The composition is clearly alternating between two themes. The first theme can be depicted as meditation and tranquility, and the other one is rapid and frantic. These two aspects make the performance outstanding and can never be related to any other performance. The thematic representations are also thought to be influenced by Glass's religious affiliation, who is a practicing Buddhist.
One of the most outstanding musical aspects is the frequent and oscillating arpeggios. This aspect is further merged with gradual unfolding structures with a sensual embrace of tonality. This leads to a continuous and vast musical piece that changes in tone, pace, mood, and perception. Through the performance, we can clearly read the mood of the composer while creating the piece.
