Electoral processes in the US are usually hotly contested and determine who will take the reins of power. Election outcomes are normally determined by the voter turnout, which is always less than the number of registered voters and voting patterns. Several factors help influence the aforementioned. Some of these factors will be analyzed accordingly in order to shed light on the subject. The first factor is race. Indeed, race is a sensitive matter in the US. This is evident since different races support candidates whom they feel takes into account their racial interests. With a diverse population of Whites, Blacks, Latinos among other races, then racial interests always come into play.
Age is also a factor, where the younger voters tend to turn out in large numbers to vote compared to the older generation. Another factor is the amount of income, from studies carried out on voting patterns it is a long known fact that low income earners tended to favor the Democrats over the Republicans which is completely the opposite for the rich. Gender is also a contributing factor and in the US elections, women tend to support gender equality and closely monitor abortion laws. This is closely related to marital status of an individual and many tend to check what each candidate plans to do concerning marriage laws. In addition, Geographical regions and the population size is also a determining factor. Finally, qualifications attained education wise and religious affiliations come into play when it comes to employment policies and religious beliefs.
