Question 1: Greenspan's Harvard Commencement Speech
(a) Business ethics
I think Greenspan is being realistic on the possibility of business ethics. Greenspan comprehensively shows how an individual can do business without literally interfering with others' space as quoted 'And beyond the personal sense of satisfaction, having a reputation for fair dealing is profoundly practical virtue. We call it "goodwill" in business and add it to our balance sheets.' (Greenspan, 1999). According to Greenspan's statement, it is valid that doing business is not only based on personal satisfaction. There should be more focus on business ethics and reputation when conducting business transactions. Therefore, business ethics is possible, but when there is collective engagement and 'good will' during business engagements. Besides, business is ethics is also possible whenever trust is given a higher priority. For instance, the economic system is shaped by beneficial exchange based on mutual trust. Therefore, Greenspan is being real about business ethics since the language he uses show the possibility and practicality of successful implementation of business ethics. Once there is trust, adherence to code of conduct and consideration of goodwill, business ethics is feasible.
(B) Core Ethical Values
Based on Greenspan's speech, honesty is the major ethical value I intend to follow throughout my career. Greenspan indicates that success should be based on honesty and productivity (Greenspan, 1999). Honesty is an essential ethical value that connotes virtuous and positive attributes. Therefore, considering it throughout my career would allow me to succeed in an effective platform and reduce any negative outcomes or unethical behaviors. I would portray trust throughout my career by embracing openness, truthfulness and integrity. The second ethical value that I would consider is trust. Greenspan dwells on trustworthiness as a major aspect that makes it easy to implement business ethics. Trustworthiness is based on the worth of confidence. It is an essential value since it enhances positive relations in the workplace. Throughout my career, I would consider the ethical value by portraying truth and preventing behaviors such as backbiting. The last core ethical value that I would consider is integrity. Integrity is a reliable, ethical value that determines one's ability to consider professional judgment while dealing with others. It is a reliable, ethical aspect that would result in effective coordination and achievement of business goals. Therefore, considering honesty, integrity and trust, as stressed by Greenspan, I will succeed in my career.
Question 2: Lawyer Plagiarism
(a) Plagiarized Legal Briefs
Judges should care whenever the attorneys submit plagiarized motions or legal briefs due to poor or unethical judgment. Plagiarism is an unethical code of conduct in the court of law, and making judgments based on copied work may make the judges make unreliable judgments and unreasonable fines. Judges should make a judgment based on factual and reasonable facts and evidence. Besides, judges should be careful with plagiarized legal ...
