A common illustration of the issues of work-life integration is the dilemma of those now described as the “sandwich generation.”
Write an initial post by the due date listed in the course calendar. The post must contain between 300 and 500 words that clearly define what the term “sandwich generation” means and,
Find and interview one person who believes he or she is part of that generation.
Ask the interviewee what benefit he or she receives or would like to receive from the employer to alleviate the stress of the situation. Explain fully.
Determine whether the FMLA would serve the same purpose as the benefit the interviewee would like to receive at work.
Identify at least one other option that employers currently provide that would benefit the interviewee given the situation in which he or she is involved.

I chose to interview a forty-seven-year-old nurse in a large hospital in California. Her husband is forty-three years old football coach. She has two children. The older is twenty-one years old taking an undergraduate course. Her youngest child just joined high school. Her father is eighty-eight years old. He has dementia and lives in his home with a caregiver who is employed by my interviewee.
According to my interviewee, her biggest challenge has always been finding time to take care of her old ailing father and her children. She states that her employer has been very supportive in helping her emotionally support her children and father. Her employer has adjusted her work schedules. She has been exempted from night and weekend however, she would like to be allowed four off days every three weeks to care for her father and a short family leave whenever her children are on holiday.
Sandwich generation as the name suggests refers to the middle-aged adults who have been squeezed between providing for aging parents and children. By definition, the sandwich generation is composed of individuals in their 40s and 50s, with a parent aged at least sixty five years and are either financially supporting a grown child aged eighteen or older, or raising a minor child (Parker & Patten, 2020). The burden of middle-aged adults living in this generation stretches beyond just financial support to emotional support as well (Parker & Patten, 2020).
