The current business environment is characterized by intense competition, disorder, increasing complexity, and hyper-speed pace of change, to mention a few. It, therefore, means that chaos is inevitable due to the convergence of all these factors. In such times of uncertainty, leaders must create structure and order because it feels safe and predictable (Brafman & Pollack, 2013). Nonetheless, in such times, leaders also need a lot of innovation, and one of the effective ways to foster invention is by creating controlled chaos in the system.
In any system, organized chaos fosters teamwork, fuels creativity, provides the best discoveries, and promotes buy-in. In the volatile business world, organizations that learn from and adapt to their environment by creating opportunities for invention and leveraging employees’ competencies can significantly improve the market in their industry as well as increase productivity (The Systems Thinker, 2020).
