Artificial Intelligence and Project Managers

Coursework Instructions:

A new study by Gartner reports that by 2030, 80% of a typical project manager’s tasks will be done via automation and artificial intelligence. This type of program and portfolio management (PPM) software is expected to begin appearing later this year. Specifically, the study says AI can collect, analyze, and report data much more quickly than people. Also, rather than using their keyboard and mouse, project managers can more easily query and interface software via chatbots and conversational AI. Some observers believe that AI will ultimately help project managers be more effective at their jobs. AI’s aren’t expected to perform the “human” elements of the job, such as advising clients, leading project teams, and offering empathy and human interaction.

1 How can AI software make project managers more efficient and productive?
Artificial intelligence relies on its computing power to analyze large amount of data within a short period of time in comparison to humans. Majority of project managers tasks involve data collection, tracking, and reporting which requires extensive resources including time and staff to be effectively carried out. However, the use of AI software programmed to analyze data through machine learning will have the capabilities to effectively perform these functions with fewer resources (Mora, 2019). Use of AI will increase productivity of project managers due to the increased accuracy of data analyzed and the short analysis period. Therefore, project managers will have access to accurate data analyzed quickly, thus positively impacting their decision outcomes (Staff Writer, 2019). The use of AI software will also free up time for project managers to focus more on higher-level services and strategic-level goal and planning (Mora, 2019). Therefore, AI will make project managers more effective and effic...
