15.Summarize Goldwater’s stated position on the racial integration of public schools.
Barry Goldwater, in his work, The Conscience of a Conservative, established a position supporting the ruling of Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 about the abolition of segragation in public schools (Goldwater 61). In this ruling, racial segregation in public schools was deemed unconstitutional despite the concept presented by the constitution that the eederal government should not have any say in how education is conducted, specifically in terms of racial integration. Goldwater further states that his position was as such because racial segregation in highly influential institutions such as schools have “strong implications of inferiority” (61).
Goldwater’s stance was written in 1990, and for me, his opinion was sound despite the vague sense that it still comes off as a tolerance of injustices in the past, such as in his use of the word “negro,” which is of course something that can cause much backlash nowadays.
