How was the Christian Bible used to argue against the truth of new astronomical ideas and discoveries?
The Christian Bible supported the geocentric model, where the Earth was at the center of the solar system with stars, moons, and the sun rotating around the Earth. The Holy Scripture talked about "the motion of the earth and the immobility of the sun" (Langford 98). Astronomical ideas were also singled out for being hypotheses and not a fact that was based on the scripture.

Galileo supported the heliocentric model that the Earth and other planets revolved around the sun, and Galileo was unwilling to compromise about his discoveries and wrote his thoughts to publicize them.
