Theological and Social Scientific Approaches
The theological approaches of Genesis and Desmond Morris' social science have several distinct differences. One of the differences is how the two approaches describe man and his origin. According to the Genesis approach, man is God's creation. In the first chapter of the book of Genesis, the Bible intimates that God created man in His own image. He also gave man absolute dominion over "every living creature that moves on the ground." On the flip side, Desmond Morris controversially refers to man as "the naked ape" (Morris 9). He then suggests that man descended from the primitive insectivore animals eighty or fifty million years ago. He also elaborates on the various stages of evolution that man has gone through to the present.
