Read Chapter 2 of Jim Cullen's The American Dream: A Short History of an Idea That Shaped a Nation and complete the following three questions:
#1. After reading chapter 2, what about "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is a continuation of the Puritan American Dream, and what is a shift away from that version of the dream? (Your answer must be in at least 180 words minimum).

Read Chapter 2 of Jim Cullen's The American Dream: A Short History of an Idea That Shaped a Nation and complete the following three questions:
#1. After reading chapter 2, what about "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is a continuation of the Puritan American Dream, and what is a shift away from that version of the dream?
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is closely intertwined with the ideal of the American Dream, and for the Puritans there was hop that the lives of the people and their children would improve. For the Puritans, religious discipline was important, and their focus on reforms emphasized religious reform. On the other hand, the Declaration of Independence stated that all men are created equal and shows that the dream of freedom was a top priority. Religious liberty was merely one way that the American Dream characterized what it means to be American.
The Puritans valued freedom and especially the ability to exercise their religion as they wished and religion was an integral part of the Puritans’ belief, some who escaped religious persecution, and there were increased calls for[political freedom. Gaining independence from Britain showed that the America Dream was possible, while acquiring and possessing property became of the aspects that people enjoyed life and liberty and pursued happiness. In chapter 2, there is more emphasis on political freedom where the Declaration of Independence guarantees “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, where the unalienable rights are applicable to all Americans.
