The names of famous leaders and colonizers have been memorized across the United States in monuments and statues that are placed in public places. These artistic works have been vital in preserving the history of various locations but are also the source of debate due to the reputation of the individuals who are represented (Çelik 7). The monuments and names of colonizers should be removed from public spaces since they reflected a negative political agenda and should be erased from history.
Most of the memorials in the South were erected at a time when white Southerners were trying to resist the efforts by Blacks to get political rights.
