According to Marx, dialectical materialism refers to the dependency between the mind or spirit and the material world. The author implies that ideas storming out of the mind arise as products of the material conditions. Hence, ideas are framed from socially acquired perceptions upon which materialism exists. In this sense, Marx states that society presents a gradation of social ranks upon which individuals exist (Marx and Engel 14). Even with the advancement of technology, production and industry development, class struggle further widens. The antagonism of the oppressed and the oppressing classes. I believe that Marx’s concept of dialectical materialism is flawed in the sense that a person cannot be a mean to society. It is true that often people get influenced by the social constructs but it is wrong to fully conclude that individuals do not have independent mind or spirit off the materialistic world. According to Marx’s concept, social being controls men’s consciousness rather than consciousness determining their being. I strongly attest to the fact that man has freedom of will but Marx treats man as a slave of economic forces and materialism.
